ZigaForm version 7.5.9

Author, Coach, and Creator

Estimator

This estimator is for Cigar Box Guitars ONLY. It does not include Uke’s, or Mandolins (those will be coming).

This estimator is meant to give you some idea of the cost involved in creating a custom guitar for you. It is meant to give you transparency and control over your build and your wallet.

On the other side, you‘ll have a one-of-a-kind cigar box instrument made just for you (or someone special!) It will be a one-of-a-kind, handmade, cigar box guitar.

I use my discretion as a builder/creator to create the best product I think possible.

TIPS

  • To make things easier, I have pre-selected items that will get you a custom build you will be happy with.
  • If you want to refine it, feel free to work your way through the page.
  • Wherever there are checkboxes you can select more than one item.
  • Once you have everything selected, hit the build it button. It will bring you to a pre-cart page.
  • Then add it to the cart and let’s arrange for the 50% down to get your build started. Build order is on a first-come, first-served basis by order of downpayment.

Choose what kind of build you want. If you're not sure, I recommend a hybrid. I don't always want to have an amp, and I don't always want to be acoustic. I'm finicky that way…
Choose how many strings you want your instrument to have.
Choose the weight of the strings you would like your build to have. Aren’t sure? Use the Light Medium gauge.
Choose more than one if appropriate.
Closed tuning machines will last longer. Classical are spiffy looking.
If you are purchasing an acoustic or a hybrid, choose a sound hole embellishment. (Electric-only guitars will not have a sound hole-but you already know that.) Why I recommend the Cocktail Strainer is because it provides extra sustain and brightness.

Floating - Best for acoustic and hybrid. Stays loose but allows adjustment for intonation.

Fixed - Put in a fixed place and permanently attached to the body.

Electric is primarily only used on electric guitars because the sound does not travel into the body as well.

This is about playability. Lower action is better for playing on frets and higher action is better for slide playing.
This is your preferred hardware color.

Truss rods allow adjustment to the action (height of the strings). Carbon Fiber reinforcement provides increased strength. Both are not required for 5 String guitars. Although, with heavy gauge strings I recommend you use both.

With medium gauge strings, you can choose between one or the other.

Also, where humidity and temperature changes are regular, the playability of your piece may vary. A truss rod allows you to make minor adjustments.

As a creator/builder, I may use wood from various sources, pallets, etc. so I may choose to add one or both to ensure the strength of your neck for years of playing. They are pieces of art.

If I choose to add any without a prior agreement, the cost will NOT be added to the total price. Consider it builder/creator prerogative.

Specialty shiz you can add.
Have a special box you want to use? You have to get it to me. Or help me select it.

Why does having your own box cost more? Many cigar boxes which are given to me to use, are irreplaceable or sentimental heirlooms.

That makes them risky to work with. I also don't have the luxury of picking out a box with the build quality necessary for making a great-sounding Cigar Box Guitar.
Do you want custom wood for your guitar? All prices will be at market price and based on availability. Those prices will be manually factored into the build prior to building and upon agreement.
